Mountain Bike clearning; brake/carb cleaner?

Benita Nancy: You are better off with a citrus degreaser to clean the chain and its components. Brake cleaner is some pretty nasty stuff.http://bicycletutor.com/chain-lubrication/

Adan Alipio: I can tell you from experience: If the components are seperated from the bike, located in a safe container to catch runoff, and all plastic spacers and parts are safely away, YES. If you get brake cleaner in your lungs or blood you can become very ill or die. If you get it on the paint, it will bubble or crack later or maybe apparently. It may eat plastic parts such as spacers, derailleur cages and pulleys, cable housings, or grips. You can message me for other questions. I strongly recommend you get a good stiff bristled brush from Park that is made for cleaning cassettes and chains of grit, without removing them. Put an old rag under the chain and spray a cleaning lubricant like Jigaloo on it while rotating and wiping the chain. Then lubricate with something substantial aft! er wiping off excess. Its a bike. It does not have to be spotless, but if you are shooting for that, wipe the frame down by hand with brushes and soft cloths, pine Sol+Water, and then dry and wax by hand with Pedros Bike Lust....Show more

Florencio Dingle: I'm not sure but this website might be able to answer it. The link is how to get rust off your bike but if you search it they may have your answer.
