Smoking and Optical Drives?

Dulcie Edis: What smoking does is that it causes a build up inside drives which makes it eventually not able to read discs at all. You just shouldn't smoke near the computer.

Its a horrible habit and known to cause not only you cancer and health problems but all the innocent people breathing in your smoke.There are no studies on the effects of smoking on optical drives. But all that junk in the smoke isn't good for any part of the machine. Be easier to stop smoking that to take it apart and clean it once a week....Show more

Guy Bonamico: You would need a cleaner that uses a solvent and a pad, one with a brush will not clean it well enough.

Majorie Chester: Smoking is A BAD HABBIT, but I DON'T WANT QUIT IT. I spend with p! uter about 6-7 hours per day, I smoke about 15 ciggarets and I didn't see how smoke affect PC. My oldest DVD-ROM drive is 4 years old, still working with no problem.So other than aesthetics,(WHITE PARTS BECOME YELLOW FROM NICOTINE IN TIME) I can't see no other reasons how SMOKE affects PC.Cleaning optical device once a week, or once everytime you have a problem, is a good deal.Once again, no side-effects from smoke in my PC.AND YES SMOKING IS A TERRIBLE HABBIT, SO I NEVER SMOKE IN PUBLIC PLACES, AND I CAN QUIT IT, ANYONE CAN.But I DON'T WANT TOO. Lita Thammorongsa: optical drive is a sensitive stuff if this thing getting contact with smoke it will shorten it's lifespan even if you're clean it frequently
