Does a moonroof affect a car's safety?

Loriann Carrigan: if it came with the car and u didnt have t installed from sratch..then the body intigrity has not been effecte..will u get hurt in an accident if u roll over..no one knows for sure..

Cassey Hollinghurst: if the car came with a moon roof out of the factory, the factory makes a small frame around it to make the roof a little stronger. if the moon roof is after market, your roof is significantly weaker. as for accidents go i dont think having a factory moon roof will save your life or kill you faster over not having the moon roof

Kris Bozelle: Cars With Moonroof

Lucrecia Laurito: Moonroofs, or their real term, Panoramic Sunroofs. When they are built into cars, the structure around the Glass is toughed using a different more stronger type of metal. In the Mercedes R-Class it is built using a mix of Carbon Fiber and Steel, which makes it very ridged. Extra safety precautions are made, when building cars like these.

Angel Klym: no you a! re talking about two completely unrelated subjects that have nothing in common. a car does not lose any critical structural support just because you added a moon roof, in fact there is support built into the frame of the moon roof, to more than compensate for the hole cut into the roof. The frame of the car, and the four pillar supports of the roof are all tied together to help keep the frame rigid and staple under traveling conditions, how you can tell is if there were any structural problems, the windshield, front and rear would flex, then crack, there is also support built in to the car with the doors too, so front to back, side to side a car is pretty stiff.About the biggest safety concern with a moon roof I have, is if it gets knocked out in a rollover, and an unrestrained driver is ejected through the vehicle. This has happened, and its not pretty. But that's what the seat belt is designed for, however it does not work if no one puts it on....Show more
