f money can't buy love, the why do people buy these expensive marriage rings and expensive weddings?

Iris Shawcroft: Not EVERYONE spends a lot of money on their weddings or buy fancy rings. I didn't receive an engagement band (by choice) because I really don't care for jewelry that much. Both my husband and I have simple gold bands with our wedding date and a special note engraved on the inside. My mom & I used coupons, clearance sales, eBay, etc. for our wedding. I even bought my wedding gown on eBay-it was a floor sample that a wedding apparel shop had put up for auction. It was gorgeous and ordinarily would have cost about $1,000 BUT I got the gown, my veil, and shoes for around $225. I think the total spent on our wedding including everything was @ $5,000. My mom is very crafty and made all the decorations. I'm allergic to flowers, so we used silk flowers. Our wedding was BEAUTIFUL & we got sooo many compliments on everything. I think people put too much emphasis on money in gene! ral, not just weddings. They worry too much about labels and keeping up with the Jones's. Romana Stiman: Millions of people waist money on materialistic **** but that's just the way the world is. I just don't understand.....one minute they spend $40,000 on a wedding......a few years later hollering about how close they are to debt .......and the months after that they getting a divorce for financial reasons. I know some people think it's all about the memories.......hmmmmmmm....my married relatives have only watched their wedding video once. You have to live with the person you marry for the rest of your life....that's enough memory for me. I wouldn't spend that much money on a wedding.....but I would spend maybe a good amount on the Honeymoon :) . I can cherish some memories from that. I'd rather save and buy a house, car and stash some away just in ca! se I have kids. Weddings are just too over rated, but that's ! my opinion. If you got the money to waist then by all means....but marriage is more then just a ring and an event to show off....Show more

Karl Samiec: i have a decent sized ring,but my man got a deal on it and it was only like 700. we also had a very small wedding. i dont think it matters how big or much ur ring and wedding is. but then again alot of women in my family have the huge rings and weddings. but their marriages are great. i think people should just do what makes them happy. some people just like to show off their money.
