Where can I get cheap bird toys or any ideas for home made toys?

Wilfred Santacruce: Bird toys are definately expensive. I have a sun conure, love bird, and a keet, and i spend a fortune- particularly on my sun conure! I'm glad you are concerned with keeping your bird stimulated, far too many people leave bird toys in the cage for years with budgies and never consider changing them. You can often find bird toy for budgies in the $4-6 range. But here are a few ideas from me:Colored popsicle sticks (bought for crafts not used ones!!! are fun to tear up. If you can find a way to punch a hole in the middle or tie them together with a natural rope- which you should buy new. Also, birdslike to forage- this means they love to work for their food. Simply buy hanging up fruits or veggies instead of putting them in the bowl can be fun. Just remember, don't leave fruits or veggies in for more than an hour or 2.Also, how about a healthy treat? Biridie bread is a fun way to introduce your bird to knew veggies Here's one easy recipe:BIRDIE CAKEIngr! edients:-One box/packet of commercial plain cake or or muffin mix... cornbread mixes work too (no chocolate!!!)-2 eggs with shells-approx 1/2 cup fresh or frozen fruits/veggies of your choice EX: peppers, apples, bananas, berries, shredded carrots, nuts (NO AVOCADOS)-aprox 1/2 cup cottage cheeseDirections:Mix all ingredients in a bowl (with eggs, allow shells to be crushed into the mix). Pour into loaf pans of muffin tins. Bake as instructated. Store half in fridge, hallf in freezer. You can give your bird a small chunk each day, just removie the bread after a few hours if uneaten...Show more

Norris Rosener: The mirror is more of a problem with cockatiels and not so bad with others. I have a tiel and a conure and the tiel will stand and look at himself the full waking time of the day if I will leave it there. Really likes his looks I guess. My conure could care less about a bird in a mirror. I guess that is the diff in a smart bird and a dumb one because some breeds ! are smarter then others. The conure is smart enough to know it! is just a mirror but the tiel thinks it is a bird lookin at him. As far as a toy that my birds like is a string or cord through large plastic beads with wood items about every 5 to 10 beads apart. Put a bell on it too and if you don't like the ringing take the guts out of it. tie one end of it to one side of his cage and the other end to the other end. mine has a blast trying to rip it apart. You can make you a nickles out of the same stuff and the will stand on your shoulder and chew on it the whole time. Don't be surprised if you see your bird hanging upside down from it and falling off....Show more

Alexis Reyer: well first u can check at the pet store if there is nothing u like u can go to the veternary pharmacy maybe u will find somethink there and if you dont find anything there than u can go to a bird shelter and maybe u can see some thing u like. GOOD LUCK

Raelene Cunnick: Straws, paper fans, raffia, cardboard (! without adhesive), popsicle sticks, paper bags filled with treats/discarded toy parts, human baby toys from goodwill, these are all inexpensive and safe toys for birds. When buying human baby toys, check them over for parts the bird could injure itself on, and remove those, or avoid that toy all together. When buying second hand, wash and disinfect before offering to your bird. No jingle bells, the slats can entrap toes, and cause significant, and sometimes permanent, damage....Show more
