Are red ants dangerous to gardens?

Raven Purl: Depends on the species of ant. Some red ants (the red velvet ant) do bite. The red ants that live in the bank of our driveway (as yet unspeciated) DO bite aggressively, and their tunnels have killed some of the kinnikinnik I have growing there. However, the ants in your vegetable garden may be a different, aggressive species. I'd leave them alone for now and see if they do any damage. If they prove harmless, leave them alone....Show more

Rolanda Merritt: nope -just annoying.
