New to Jobs: REFERENCES?

Floy Fague: you can use teachers, doctors, dentists, former employers, which includes parents you've babysat for regularly. You can't use family members or close personal friends.

Christiane Cattano: It's a good idea to stay away from using family members or friends. You can use former employers, a teacher, someone you knew through a community organization or church group, etc. You should ask the people ahead of time if they are willing to serve as a reference. This will also serve to give them a heads up so that they are not blindsided with a phone call out of the blue. It will also give them a chance to politely refuse, which will help to avoid an unfortunate situation wherein sometimes a person assumes the individual they use as a reference will heap compliments on them, but the person used as reference gives a less than glowing report....Show more

Jacinta Moitoso: They can be none of those things. I know it would be hard to think of references, but thin! k of someone who knows you really well, like a family friend. also, another reference would be someone important from your first job.

Caleb Chapman: The name of any person, who can certify your character and conduct, and even if related to you can be given as Reference !!

Sylvie Snetting: NEVER put family/relatives as references. Use the parents of the children you babysat for....your teachers, yes counselors. Make sure you ASK them before you put them down. List their complete name, title, address and phone number. Good luck!

Rachell Meese: People from your last babysitting jobs would be great, also counselor, teachers, even neighbors who have known you for awhile and that you know will say nice things about you.

Catheryn Barringer: School counselors and teachers would be fine. The people who hired you as a baby sitter are past employers, so they would be good choices. People at the organizations where you volunteered would be great choices as w! ell. You want to stick with non-family members who are familia! r with your work and responsible nature.
